Get Out ... and Explore the Mendota Heights Area June 17-19

Magic fish, a historic walk along the river and a Father's Day concert are all in store for you this weekend.

1.)

When/Where: 1 p.m.- 2 p.m., Friday, June 17/ , 8098 Blaine Ave, Inver Grove Heights, 55076

Why Go: Get creative and roll, flatten, pinch and shape clay to create colorful fish. All Ages. Registration required.

2.)

When/Where: 10:30am, Saturday June 18/ , 1357 Sibley Memorial Hwy, Mendota, 55150

Why Go: Join Sibley House Historic Site staff on a morning river walk and learn about the history of "the Entry," the juncture of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers, and its importance to the fur trade and development of Minnesota as a state. Dogs are welcome. During the walk, dogs and their owners will also hear more about Henry Sibley's dogs, including his beloved Irish Wolfhound "Lion." Please remember bags and dog leashes.

Pricing: $6 adults, $5 seniors and college students, $4 children ages 6-17; $2 discount for MHS members.

When/Where: 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., Sunday June 19/ 200 Tower Ave, St. Paul, 55111

Why Go: Join the skilled tradesmen of the historic Fort Snelling to try blacksmithing under the direction of the smith. You'll select a project, work the forge, pound out the hot metal, and shape the iron using hammer and tongs as it was done two centuries ago. Participants will be able to take their finished projects home. Children ages 13-17 must be accompanied by an adult.

When/Where: 7 p.m., Sunday June 19/ Caponi Art Park: 1205 Diffley Rd, Eagan, 55123

Why Go: Bring dad to this outdoor orchestra concert and enjoy light classical and "pops" music in a casual atmosphere. The event is a Minnesota Sinfonia's Community Concert. Children are welcome, and the venue is handicap-accessible. 

Pricing: Free.

When/Where: 1 p.m., Sunday June 19/ 1357 Sibley Memorial Hwy, Mendota, 55150

Why Go: See original landmarks in one of the oldest towns in the state during a 90-minute guided walk through historic downtown Mendota. View historical photographs and hear how the town evolved. After the tour, light refreshments will be served at the Sibley Clerk's home, Hypolite Dupuis.
