ReplyAmy Koch represented the St. Michael area and Wright County, and was the Senate Majority Leader before her affair with Michael Brodkorb became public. She stepped down and he was fired. That's the local tie here.

ReplyBex, this is just the latest thing the USPS is doing to reduce costs. To save money, last year they announced they are closing or consolidating about half of their mail-processing centers — mostly in rural areas. They also reduced the standards for first-class mail, depending on location. It used to take 1-3 days, now it takes 2-3 days for some mail, based on where it's going. I imagine they will be looking at cuts elsewhere to be able to get up to the $20 billion in cuts.

ReplyThe same exact information — age, vehicle — was published on the Wright County Sheriff's Office website, open to the public. Patch did not release the facts any differently than police did.

ReplyPeople have a right to know the facts as they come in, whether the news is tragic or not. However, out of respect for the family, we absolutely wait until police release the name publicly, before reporting the identity. It's a balance between informing the community and remaining sensitive.

ReplyYes, we were planning to break out a few of these. Some of them do not have any additional public information — like the arrest for dissemination of obscene materials, because the suspect was a minor at the time the complaint was filed. But more to come on some of the other ones.
