Joseph Benjamin Thomas could face life in prison for possession of meth.
A Mendota Heights man pleaded guilty Wednesday to possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of high-purity methamphetamine in a case related to a federal investigation of white supremacist activity. Joseph Benjamin Thomas, 42, and an accused accomplice, Samuel Johnson of Austin, 31, were indicted in April. Johnson was indicted on weapons charges. According to reports by the Associated Press, the men had gathered weapons and planned to bomb the Mexican consulate in St. Paul. In a federal affidavit, Thomas allegedly told an undercover FBI agent that he considered himself a "domestic terrorist," according to the Associated Press. Man indicted on drug charges wanted to bomb the Mexican consulate, according to reports.
A Mendota Heights resident was planning to bomb the Mexican consulate in St. Paul before he was arrested on drug charges last month, according to the Associated Press. Joseph Benjamin Thomas, age 42, was charged April 16 by the U.S. Attorney’s Office with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, two counts of distribution of 5 or more grams of methamphetamine, and one count of distribution of 50 or more grams of methamphetamine. An associate, 31-year-old Samuel Johnson of Austin, was indicted on weapons charges. Both have been under investigation by the FBI since 2010. Updated 1 p.m. April 27: A Mendota Heights man has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of distributing methamphetamine in relation to an investigation of white supremacist activity and possible violence. Joseph Benjamin Thomas, 42, was charged April 16 by the U.S. Attorney’s Office with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, two counts of distribution of five or more grams of methamphetamine, and one count of distribution of 50 or more grams of methamphetamine.
