Dakota County Offering January Whooping Cough Immunization Clinics

More than 260 cases of whooping cough, or pertussis, were reported in Dakota County last year.

Pertussis, or “whooping cough”, remains a concern, with more than 260 cases reported in Dakota County last year. Pertussis can affect anyone, but it can be much more serious in infants. Pertussis is spread through the air by coughing. It is important that people of all ages be up to date on their pertussis vaccinations. Infants should begin the series of DTaP vaccinations at 2 months of age, receiving five doses before starting kindergarten. At 10 years of age a child should receive a Tdap booster. Anyone 10 years or older who has not had a booster is encouraged to get one now. …
