Classic Suburban Conference member schools voted to disband the entire conference effective after next school year. St. Thomas Academy could be left out if other schools form new conference.
Earlier this spring, the Classic Suburban Conference attempted to remove St. Thomas Academy, but the organization's bylaws wouldn't permit it. So this week, the member schools voted to disband the entire conference effective after next school year, according to a Pioneer Press article by Tim Leighton. Richfield is headed to the Metro West Conference and the other schools will likely form a new conference without St. Thomas Academy, according to the article. The athletic directors of the Classic Suburban Conference voted earlier this month to remove St. Thomas Academy athletics beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, according to a Pioneer Press article by Tim Leighton. From the Pioneer Press article: St. Thomas Academy is an all-boys military school with an enrollment of 1,066, according to the Minnesota State High School League. Thriller of a game completes a solid season for the Cadets
After two blowout victories in the quarter and semifinals of the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament, St Thomas Academy won the championship game Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in thrilling fashion with a last minute goal, defeating the Hermantown Hawks 5 to 4. Sophomore forward Tom Novak scored a power play goal with 6.1 seconds remaining to put the Cadets on top for good, and the team won it's third straight State Class A championship. Matt Perry scored the first three Cadet goals for a hat trick, and Henry Hart scored to tie the score at 4 in the third period. David Zevnik made 19 saves in goal for the Cadets. Mack Johnson, of Roseville, is the only Minnesotan in the American Family Insurance National High School Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships. First-round voting deadline is noon today for him on Facebook.
Mack Johnson is Minnesota's only contestant vying in a national high school basketball competition. And Patch readers can help Johnson go all the way in the contest that is based on Facebook voting. Johnson, a senior at Roseville Area High School, is one of 32 high school boys from across the country in the running for the 2013 American Family Insurance National High School Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships. Are parent’s attitudes from the stands rubbing off on players?
During one of the first years my son played baseball, I remember a parent from an opposing team who routinely sat as close as he could to the field and constantly yelled at his son. No matter what his 9-year-old son did, apparently it was wrong in his father’s eyes. I felt bad for the kid, his teammates and, well, pretty much everyone that had to listen to it. I couldn't wait for the game to be over. Fast-forward to recently and we hear of incidents of player infractions such as recent fighting on the field during a Totino-Grace High School and Prairie Seeds Academy boys varsity soccer game. The competition in youth sports has seems like it is at a point where more parents are trying to “coach” from the stands and players might be taking …

Winning is all that counts and cheating is just another way to build "the program." It's sad to note that professional sports are cleaner that academic sports.
