Obituary: Joyce Marie Thamert, 46

June 8, 1966 - January 16, 2013

Joyce Marie Thamert, of Mendota Heights, passed away Jan. 16, 2013 at the age of 46. "A special thanks to all those who cared for Joyce over the years; you are truly appreciated," Thamert's family wrote. She is survived by her parents, Bob and Barb Thamert; sisters: Jean (Thomas) Levandowski and Jody Thamert; niece and nephews, Emily, John, and Paul as well as other loving relatives and friends. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Church of the Risen Savior in Burnsville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at White Funeral Home in Apple Valley and one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna.

Obituary: Diane Lansink, Age 66

Oct. 22, 1946 - Dec. 5, 2012

Burnsville resident Diane C. Lansink passed away suddenly on Dec. 5, 2012 at the age of 66. Lansink is preceded in death by her parents, Laurence and Zolo Anderson. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Jerry; children, Michelle (Jeff) Joerger, Jeff (Lisa) and Dan (Fiancée Katie) Lansink; grandchildren, Jake and Zach Joerger and Maddie, Carson and Stella Lansink; siblings, Ken (Shirley) and Ron (Pat) Anderson, Carmen Looney, Wanda (Tom) Trombley and Cathy (Dave) Kemp; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A memorial will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savage with a gathering of family and friends two hours prior to mass. Russ Wahl Remembered for Building Relationships in Mendota Heights Area

Area mourns loss of longtime building inspector and building official.

The Mendota Heights area lost an extraordinary asset March 25, both professionally and personally. Russell “Russ” Wahl has been a building official and inspector for decades, administering and enforcing building codes throughout Mendota Heights, Mendota, Lilydale, West St. Paul, Inver Grove Heights and Sunfish Lake. “He was a joy to work with,” explained David Neameyer, building official for Mendota and Lilydale and inspector in Inver Grove Heights. “One of his strongest assets was a memory for people. He would be able to see people and recall projects from 30 or 40 years prior.” Raised on Saint Paul’s West Side, Wahl was “a hard worker” even as a young person, according to his wife of 59 years, Marilyn. My thoughts and prayers go out the the family. Russ was a great guy. Russ was instrumental of getting local business owners and the City together with the Mendota Heights Volunteer Fire Dept to put on tha annual Halloween Bonfire. Remembering Orvil J. Johnson

The first city administrator in Mendota Heights created the blueprint for the valuable local government role.

As the first person to hold the position of city administrator in Mendota Heights, it was up to Orvil J. Johnson to develop a blueprint for the job at a time of tremendous city growth. Johnson served under the late Donald Huber, who was mayor of Mendota Heights from 1961 to 1976. "Orvil had to create a position that didn't exist while gaining the support of the City Council and the staff as he began to run the day-to-day operations of the city," said former mayor John Huber, son of Donald. "He had the skills to make that work and he did it wonderfully." Johnson passed away on Jan. 19 at the age of 88.
