Mendota Heights Reserve Officers Honored for 13,000 Hours in Volunteer Service

The city of Mendota Heights honored seven police reserve officers at a city council meeting earlier this month.

Seven police reserve officers were recognized earlier this month by the city of Mendota Heights for volunteering a total of 3,029 hours in 2012, the Pioneer Press is reporting. Presidential volunteer service awards were given to George Castillo, Jesse Mettner, Jeff Parker, Jim Knox, Randy Pentel and Jerry Murphy, and Murphy was presented with a lifetime achievment award for volunteering about 13,000 in the past 45 years. The Mendota Heights Police Department began a reserve unit in 1967 to support the sworn police officers working in the field. The program fell by the wayside until 2009 when the unit was revived under the guidance of Murphy, a volunteer captain who was the remaining member of the original program. It takes 42 hours of …

Mendota Heights Police Officer Studies in United Kingdom

Steve Meyer, a police officer for the Mendota Heights Police Department, took a week-long trip to the United Kingdom as part of his studies at Saint Mary's University.

The following is a press release from Saint Mary's University. Steve Meyer, police officer for the Mendota Heights Police Department, recently returned from a weeklong trip to the United Kingdom with 11 of his classmates in the public safety administration graduate program at the Twin Cities Campus of Saint Mary’s University.  Meyer, who lives in Rosemount, will graduate from Saint Mary’s this spring. The purpose of the trip was to get students out of their comfort zones and experience policing in another country.  While there, the Saint Mary’s group met with people in all facets of the Northamptonshire Police department, from the lowest-ranking constables to Sir Hugh Orde, the United Kingdom’s highest-ranking law enforcement official (see…

Local Law Enforcement Agencies Record Arrests During December DWI Effort

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says Dakota County is the fifth most dangerous county in the state for drunken driving.

Inver Grove Heights Police did not record an arrest during the enforcement effort, according to preliminary reports. The Dakota County Sheriff’s Department recorded 18 DWI arrests. Statewide, more than 2,500 drivers were arrested for impaired driving during last month’s campaign. That compares to 2,600 DWI arrests recorded in December 2011. Man Accused of Auto Theft Arrested in Mendota Heights

Michael Anthony Brooks, 47, of Lake City reportedly was taken into custody while picking up his paycheck at a Mendota Heights business.

Michael Anthony Brooks of Lake City was charged with one count of felony auto theft. If convicted, he could be punished by up to five years in jail and a fine of between $3,000 and $10,000. According to a Dakota County criminal complaint released last week: Lake City Police informed Mendota Heights Police on Dec. 5 that Brooks allegedly would be driving to a Mendota Heights business that afternoon in a stolen 2001 Mercury Mountaineer to pick up his paycheck. Mendota Heights Police Officer Discovers Stolen Vehicle in South St. Paul

A 19-year-old Minneapolis woman has been charged with felony auto theft following the Nov. 21 traffic stop.

Mariah Rae Warborg, 19, of Minneapolis was arrested and charged with felony auto theft after being pulled over by the officer on Nov. 21. According to a Dakota County criminal complaint released this week: When the officer performed a license plate on the car in front of her, she learned the car had been reported stolen the previous night.
