Martial Arts Studio Gives Black Belts to Two Mendota Heights Students

The students completed a rigorous four-hour-long trial last Sunday.

The following is a press release from Boltz's Family Martial Arts and Fitness. Four Taekwondo students advanced to the rank of Black Belt last Sunday at Boltz’s Family Martial Arts and Fitness in Mendota Heights. Ms. Tracy Dungan of Eden Prairie, Mr. Lane Gans of Mendota Heights, Mr. Gilad Lerman and Mr. Yuval Lerman of St. Paul completed the rigorous four-hour long trials at a closed test last Sunday with great success. Their test was proctored by head instructor/school owner Master Greg Boltz Bolton, fifth dan, with the assistance of Mr. Neil Smeby, third dan. Viewfinder: Aikido Students Take A Fall, And Like It

Students learn martial arts, self-defense at the Japanese martial arts school Kyoshin Aikido Dojo.

Grab, fly, throw the air and hit the mat. Repeat. Eight students at the Kyoshin Aikido Dojo on S. Robert Street did that drill, in a variety of forms, over and over Wednesday night. All under the watchful eye of Cory Hansen, head instructor at the dojo and a third degree black belt. Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba. It involves comprehensive use of effective joint locks, strikes and throws and other techniques developed from forms of Jujutsu. Throws and other techniques from kenjutsu (sword arts) and jojutsu (walking stick arts) are also taught. With an emphasis on motion and movement, the applications of Aikido require very little strength or athletic ability and can be used by practically everyone. Aikido …
