Four one-act, student-produced plays will be shown Jan. 19-21 at Henry Sibley High School.

Henry Sibley High School sophomores Emma Alley and Laura Dill's play, "An Autumn Night," is told in flashbacks and untangles the life of a dead high school student. The play is one of four one-act, student-produced plays showing at the Henry Sibley Auditorium at 7:20 p.m. on Jan. 19 and Jan. 20 and at 2 p.m. on Jan. 21. Tickets are $3 for students, $4 for adults. Henry Sibley High School senior Celia Knieff's play, "Driving Fred Willard," is about a girl who volunteers to help a surly, sexist senior citizen. The play is one of four one-act, student-produced plays showing at the Henry Sibley Auditorium at 7:20 p.m. on Jan. 19 and Jan. 20 and at 2 p.m. on Jan. 21. (VIDEO) Henry Sibley Theater: 'Robots and Metaphors'

Four one-act, student-produced plays will be shown Jan. 19-21 at Henry Sibley High School.

Henry Sibley High School seniors Michael Freund and Chance Brost's play, "Robots and Metaphors," is like a futuristic, high school version of the 1996 Michael Keaton vehicle "Multiplicity." A male student makes robot clones of himself with different personalities in order to "pick up chicks and become popular." The play is one of four one-act, student-produced plays showing at the Henry Sibley Auditorium at 7:20 p.m. on Jan. 19 and Jan. 20 and at 2 p.m. on Jan. 21. Popular Henry Sibley Math Team Leads Conference

Three senior math stars are leading the team toward another conference title.

“How’d that last team test go for you, Jack?” “How are those points racking up, Mark?” Henry Sibley High School’s math team coach, Erik Kluznik, describes seniors Jack O’Leary, Mark Rosno, and Patrick Holec as mathematical “superstars.” The triumvirate are on their way to leading the team to its sixth conference championship in the past seven years, and the three friends have added extracurricular interest with a “friendly competition” for the highest cumulative point total. “If I win, Patrick Holec over there has to wear short-shorts for a day to school and Mark Rosno has to present me with a ‘Math-Team-Captain-of-the-Year award during our AP physics class, publicly in front of the whole class,” said O’Leary, who, after three of the five …

St. Thomas Academy Senior Ranks Among Nation's Elite Chess Players

St. Thomas Academy student Prashantha Amarasinghe has a long list of chess honors and awards.

Local high school student Prashantha Amarasinghe won't forget his first chess match against chess grandmaster Dmitry Gurevich. Amarasinghe, an Eagan resident, squared off against the nationally-recognized Gurevich during a tournament in 2009. He may have lost, but Amarsinghe's last-ditch sacrifice of his own queen to take down two of Gurevich's pieces caught the grandmaster's eye. Gurevich had a good reason to be impressed. Amarasinghe, a St. Thomas Academy senior, is a formidable chess player with an impressive list of tournament accomplishments.
