Mendota Heights City Administrator David McKnight is a contender for the position of city administrator in Farmington, MN. McKnight’s application has been selected as one of six to be considered for interviews starting later this month, confirmed Georgia Larson of the Farmington Human Resources Department. McKnight is a resident of Farmington, former city council member and ran for mayor in 2008. From a pool of applicants comprised of finance and business specialists, lawyers and engineers, the Mendota Heights City Council chose their picks for three city advisory committees Feb. 16. Two full terms and one one-year term are vacant on the planning commission. The same situation faces the airport advisory committee. The parks and recreation committee has one vacancy outstanding. Michael Noonan, Howard Roston and Mary Magnuson were selected for the planning commission. Magnuson will be appointed to the 1-year-term. Jim Neuharth, Kevin Byrnes and Gina Norling were selected for the airport relations committee. Norling was chosen for the one-year term. Three applicants for the Mendota Heights City Council opening were approved for final consideration Jan. 14 at a special meeting of the council. The Thursday public meeting was called to interview the eight residents interested in the vacancy. Former council member and 2010 mayoral candidate Jill Smith and planning commission members Mike Povolny and Ansis Viksnins were unanimously OK’d to be considered for the final vote scheduled for the regular council meeting Jan. 18. The person selected will fill the two-year remainder of newly elected Mayor Sandra Krebsbach’s council term. The Mendota Heights City Council anticipates interviewing eight candidates for an open council seat beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13. Newly elected Mayor Sandra Krebsbach vacated her council seat this year to take the gavel. Two years remain of her council term. An appointment will be voted on Tuesday Jan. 18, in time to include the new member in a goal-setting process and the selection of members for the city’s various commissions.
