Resurfacing of Highway 13 in Mendota is scheduled to begin Tuesday, July 24, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Daytime lane closures between Old Sibley Memorial Highway and 2nd Street will be controlled by a flagging operation between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. All local business access will be maintained. A detour between Cliff Road and Interstate 35W will be posted.
Southbound Highway 13 is scheduled to close Friday between Cliff Road and Interstate 35W in Burnsville, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Intersections to southbound Highway 13 from Nicollet Avenue, Portland Avenue and County Road 11 will be closed. A detour for the highway closure will direct motorists to Cliff Road and Interstate 35W and back onto Highway 13. Local businesses will remain accessible, according to MnDOT. A signed detour will redirect motorists while the highway is closed for resurfacing.
Update (3 p.m., June 8) Highway 13 will be closed between Yankee Doodle Road and Pilot Knob Road in both directions from June 12-22, not June 11-21 as Patch previously reported, according to a news release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The highway will close at 7 a.m. on June 12 for resurfacing work and will reopen at 7 p.m. on June 22. A small section of Highway 13 will close for up to a month.
A complete closure of Highway 13 between Wachtler Avenue and Sylvandale Road is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning. Local residences and businesses will be accessible for the entire month the road is scheduled to close. A detour using Wachtler Avenue, Wenthworth Avenue, Dodd Road and Annapolis Street will be posted. Crews from the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be replacing drainage pipes beneath the roadway as part of an overhaul of Highway 13 from Burnsville to West St. Paul happening this summer. This round of closures around Highway 55 and Highway 110 is scheduled to run through May 18.
Lane closures on Highway 13 in the Mendota Heights area will begin Monday, May 7, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Areas near the intersections of Highway 13 and Highway 110, as well as Highway 13 and Highway 55, are scheduled to close intermittently between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Other closures on Highway 13 in Mendota Heights can be expected between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. This round of work, scheduled through May 18, will upgrade the intersections to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and complete some minor repair work to the concrete and drainage systems. Highway 13 in Lilydale will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Lilydale Road and Interstate 35 starting Monday. The reduction is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and is anticipated to last a week while Xcel Energy works on a gas line.

Mendota and surrounding communities should be prepared for two construction projects that could happen this summer, according to Mayor Brian Mielke. The Minnesota Department of Transportation is scheduled to reconstruct Highway 13 from Burnsville to Annapolis in summer 2012. This project had been initially proposed for summer 2015. Another proposal that is being discussed is what to do with Old Sibley Memorial Highway, running from the Church of St. Peter to Highway 13 near Big Rivers Regional Trail overlook and Lloyd's Barbeque Company in Mendota Heights.
