Sheriff's Newsletter: Deputies Play Cat and Mouse with Driver Harboring Drugs

Dakota County Sheriff Dave Bellows updates you on the latest county happenings.

A waiting game between Dakota County Sheriff's Office Deputy Pat Enderlein and the driver of a suspicious vehicle ended with a meth bust, according to the most recent edition of the Dakota County Sheriff's Newsletter. Enderlein, parked near a gas station, noticed one of the customers at the station was stalling for time, and refusing to leave the station until the deputy departed. Enderlein called in assistance, then, to dupe the suspicious man, drove out of the area. Sure enough, the driver left soon after, and was stopped for having expired tabs on his car. Police searched the vehicle after witnessing the passenger hide something under the front seat. They turned up methamphetamine, Xanax, paraphernalia and burglary tools. Click on the …

Winter Weather and Roadways Over the past week, deputies responded to a number of accidents resulting from our recent winter storms: On Thursday, a 61-year-old woman from Farmington sustained serious injuries when sh elost control of her SUV while traveling northbound on Highway 52 near 200th Street. The SUV struck a guardrail, causing the vehicle to roll several times. The driver, who was the lone occupant, sustained head injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Regions Hospital in St Paul. Sheriff: More Than 1,000 Participate in 'South Metro Polar Plunge'

A contingent of Dakota County Sheriff employees participated in this year's South Metro Polar Plunge.

A Good Day for a Plunge Last Saturday proved to be a good day for the South Metro Polar Plunge. As in past years, the event was well-attended, with over 1,000 plungers raising a record $250,000 for the Special Olympics. As usual the DCSO was well represented with a large contingent of staff willing to jump. As in past years, Deputy Jen Lenarz was the “ring leader,” organizing much of the event.  And the Winner is On Tuesday the Dakota County Board of Commissioners acknowledged a large group ofemployees for their years of service. Fencepost Slams Through Windshield, Narrowly Missing Driver: Sheriff's Newsletter

This close call was documented in the Dakota County Sheriff's weekly newsletter.

A driver whose vehicle slid off the road in rural Dakota County was lucky to escape death or serious injury after a wooden fencepost slammed through the vehicle's windshield during the accident. On a separate note, Dakota County Sheriff's Office deputies collected and disposed of 1,500 pounds of prescription medication through Dakota County's drug disposal program. There are currently three drug drop-off locations in the county, but that number will be expanded to seven locations over the next two months.
