Hours later, the infant's body was found facedown and bleeding on the blanket—dead of apparent asphxiation. Ableidinger was one of three infants to die in Dakota County child care homes in just more than a year. All three infants were in unsafe sleeping positions. All of the homes were licensed by the county. The deaths have led to an awareness campaign by the county that started with postcards mailed earlier this month to 793 licensed homes featuring a picture of a coffin beneath the words, "WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE WITH THIS?" "Do the right thing," Kelly Harder, Dakota County's director of community …

Dakota County Unemployment Rate Falls in February

Meanwhile, Minnesota continues adding jobs.

Dakota County posted a 5.2 percent seasonally-unadjusted jobless rate in February, down eight-tenths of 1 percent from the same month a year earlier, according to data released late last week by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. The county's total workforce was 232,614 with 220,460 people employed and 12,154 unemployed. Monte Hanson, a DEED spokesman, said recently, "Seasonally unadjusted unemployment numbers tend to jump in January and February because of cold weather (affecting construction and other outdoor jobs) and because of post-Christmas retail layoffs. Here are the jokes Spicer made during the trial that the board deemed "inappropriate": The comments were made during the trial of Steven R. Latham, who was convicted of misdemeanor charges of violating a harassment…
