Classic Suburban Conference Votes Dissolve in 2014

Classic Suburban Conference member schools voted to disband the entire conference effective after next school year. St. Thomas Academy could be left out if other schools form new conference.

Earlier this spring, the Classic Suburban Conference attempted to remove St. Thomas Academy, but the organization's bylaws wouldn't permit it. So this week, the member schools voted to disband the entire conference effective after next school year, according to a Pioneer Press article by Tim Leighton. Richfield is headed to the Metro West Conference and the other schools will likely form a new conference without St. Thomas Academy, according to the article. St. Thomas Academy Voted Out of Classic Suburban Conference

The athletic directors of the Classic Suburban Conference voted earlier this month to remove St. Thomas Academy athletics beginning with the 2014-2015 school year.

The athletic directors of the Classic Suburban Conference voted earlier this month to remove St. Thomas Academy athletics beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, according to a Pioneer Press article by Tim Leighton. From the Pioneer Press article: St. Thomas Academy is an all-boys military school with an enrollment of 1,066, according to the Minnesota State High School League. The school's enrollment is doubled for placement in competitive sections. The Cadets are often maligned for their sports dominance, especially in football and hockey. READ THE PIONEER PRESS ARTICLE

The Saint Thomas Academy Cadets (6-1, 5-1 Classic Suburban) traveled to Ettinger Field in South St. Paul Wednesday night to take on the South St. Paul Packers (7-0, 6-0 Classic Suburban) in a conference matchup to end the season. Through a partnership with the Minnesota Sports Broadcast Network (MSBN), Mendota Heights Patch is proud to bring you streaming broadcasts of local high school sports for the 2012-2013 season. Photos: STA Fends Off Rival Henry Sibley 66-58

The St. Thomas Academy boys’ basketball team took care of business on their home court Tuesday night against Classic Suburban rival Henry Sibley. The Cadets downed the Warriors 66-58. STA led throughout the game but had trouble putting the Warriors away until sealing the victory with free throws at the end.  Henry Sibley junior Adam Huessner scored 21 points to help keep the Warriors within striking distance. But 29 points from Cadets senior Thomas Sjoberg proved too much to overcome. St. Thomas Academy improved to 9-4 on the season (5-1 in Classic Suburban play) with the victory. Henry Sibley falls to 7-8 (3-3).  The Cadets play Friday at home against Hill-Murray. Henry Sibley hosts South St. Paul, also on Friday.

Mendota Heights Students to Perform at All-Conference Honor Concert

Musicians from the Classic Suburban Conference will gather at Richfield High School Tuesday night for a gala performance.

The Classic Suburban Conference All-Conference Honor Concert will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Richfield High School Auditorium.   Students have been honored with selection into one of three All-Conference ensembles that will perform. The concert band will be directed by Dr. Kristin Tjornehoj, director of bands at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. The jazz band is led by professional jazz musician and composer, Laura Caviani. The choir is directed by Dr. Timothy K. Sawyer, Director of Choral Activities at Northwestern College in Roseville, MN. It was a night to get a groove on as Hill-Murray hosted the Classic Suburban Conference championship meet on Thursday evening in Maplewood.  After two-plus hours of competition, Henry Sibley High School came away with the overall conference crown—earning the title in a tiebreaker by just three points after accounting for all Classic Suburban meets this season. Twenty-four groups from the varsity, junior varsity and B-squad ranks represented their schools in the meet. Sibley also won the high kick championship, while overall conference runner-up Simley won the jazz title for the conference. The meet was also scored on its own as the final conference competition of the year, with Sibley winning the meet's jazz title and Simley placing second…

Warriors Dance Team Starts Strong at Simley

The Henry Sibley dance team placed first in their grouping last week at the first meet of the Classic Suburban Conference season. Teams from Henry Sibley, Hill-Murray, Mahtomedi, North High School, Richfield, South St. Paul and Simley High School gathered in Inver Grove Heights Tuesday to compete.

Mendota Heights Runners Trail Just Behind Classic Suburban Conference Title

STA boys finished second, Henry Sibley girls finish second and Sibley boys finish fourth in Tuesday's competition.

The Henry Sibley boys and girls cross country teams and the St. Thomas Academy boys cross country team competed in the Classic Suburban Conference championships on Tuesday at St. Croix Bluffs. Sibley girls and boys placed second and fourth, respectively, while the Cadets placed second. The Warriors girls trailed Mahtomedi for the conference crown. Mahtomedi finished with 38 points, and the Sibley girls finished with 78. The Warriors’ top finishers crossed the line together. Junior Alecia Olsen led the way for the Warriors, finishing in 16:31.2. Second-Ranked Cadets March Past Hill-Murray

Senior running back Hootie Hubbell rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries to lead second-ranked St. Thomas Academy to a 42-14 win over visiting Hill-Murray Friday in Mendota Heights. The Cadets dominated the first half and led 21-0 at the break and 35-7. St. Thomas Academy senior quarterback John Gould completed 7 of 10 passes for 95 yards and scored one touchdown on a 3-yard run and another on a 32-yard pass to senior Teddy Andrews. Junior running back Nick Waldvogel caught five passes for 81 yards and rushed seven times for 63 yards for the Cadets. After learning of their sectional pairings over the weekend, soccer teams from Henry Sibley, St. Thomas Academy and Visitation School all head into their respective post-season tournaments this week and face the prospect of victory or elimination.
