Share Science and Magic With Your Children for Free

"Three things to do in the Twin Cities area" includes a bootlegger's ball and Irish jigs.

As part of its Free Second Saturdays program, the Bakken Museum will host a day of science and magic. The activities start at 11 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. “Throughout the day there will be magic shows, hands-on magic and an invisible ink activity,” according to the museum, located at 3537 Zenith Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN.

The Minnesota History Center is hosting the exhibit, “American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition” from Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, to Sunday, March 16, 2014. The exhibit allows visitors to “step back in time to an era of flappers and suffragists, bootleggers and temperance workers, and real-life legends like Al Capone and Carry Nation,” according to the exhibit website. On Friday, Nov. 8, the History Center is hosting a “Bootlegger’s Ball Exhibit Preview Party” from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $30 or $25 for Minnesota Historical Society members. You must register online ahead of the event. The center is at 345 W. Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul, MN.

If you like Irish jigs, you should head to the Phipps Center for the Arts. Patrick Ball will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The center is at 109 Locust Street, Hudson, WI. The performance will include “marvelous old tales of wit and enchantment accompanied by jigs, reels, and haunting airs performed on the ancient, brass-strung harp of Ireland,” according to the Phipps Center for the Arts. Tickets are $22 for adults and $15 for students and children.
