Permit to Carry Holders Invited to Help Cleanup Highway in Mendota Today

Looking to give back, a group endorsing safe gun ownership will hit the highway early Sunday morning.

Law abiding Minnesotans with Permits to Carry will clean-up Highway 55 between Mendota Bridge & Waters Drive on September 15th.

Minnesota Carry Permit Holders will clean their Adopt-a-Highway segment of State Highway 55 between the Mendota Bridge & Waters Drive beginning at 9:30 a.m. on September 15th.

As of September 1, 2013, there are 153,228 Permits to Carry held by law-abiding citizens in Minnesota, according to data from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Each permit holder has been screened by their County Sheriff and has completed classroom and live-fire training provided by an instructor.

"Part of what we're demonstrating with this bi-annual commitment to the Adopt-a-Highway program is that carry permit holders in Minnesota are normal everyday citizens who are concerned about their local communities", said Patrick Watson, spokesperson for the group.

The Minnesota Adopt-a-Highway program is administered by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.  Minnesota Carry Permit Holders adopted this highway segment in 2010.
