Duluth Area Flooding: How to Help

Red Cross Northland is accepting donations, and the United Way is organizing volunteers.

Mendota Heights had its fair share of , but now residents are also turning their eyes and disbelief to the flooding streets of Duluth.

Where just last weekend thousands of runners enjoyed the North Shore and , this week streets are crumbling under incredible rainfall and flooding.

Gov. Mark Dayton declared a state of emergency for eight counties on Tuesday. The mayor of Duluth, Don Ness, has told media he will seek federal disaster aid.

Want to help? Here's how:

Donations can be made to Red Cross Northland by visiting www.redcrossmn.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Contributions may also be sent to the Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross at 2524 Maple Grove Road, Duluth, MN 55811 or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.

Anyone interested in offering volunteer assistance through the United Way can call 211 or 1-800-543-7709 to register.
