DNR Says 'Don't Move a Mussel' on Memorial Day

Three things to do to make sure your boat passes MN DNR inspection for aquatic invasive species.

In years past you might have gotten off with a warning, but this year Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officials say this year you could get a ticket for violating state laws and practices that keep aquatic invasive species from spreading.

Three things to do before you transport a boat:

  1. Take out the boat's drain plug and keep it outd.
  2. Take off all vegetation from the boat and trailer.
  3. Drain all water from compartments and containers on the boat, including bilge, live wells, ballast tanks and bait buckets.

Citations range from $50 to $1,000.
