Viewfinder: Mendota Heights 5K Run/Walk Draws A Crowd Under Sunny Skies

More than 350 runners and walkers participated in the sixth annual event.

Some 371 registered runners, walkers, people pushing strollers and some doing a little of everything, turned out for the sixth annual City of Mendota Heights 5K Run/Walk Saturday.

Sponsored by Gateway Bank, the event was held under sunny blue skies and temperatures that started warm and got warmer as the race went on. The race started and ended at The Village in Mendota Heights.

Ryun Hess of St. Paul edged Dan Moline for the overall men’s championship, 18:02 to 18:09.

Jenna St. Fleur won the women’s division over Jen Lenarz, 20:41 to 20:55.

Mendota Heights police personnel provided race safety, while a large number of volunteers helped the runners and walkers with water, drinks, snacks and occasional advice.

All race proceeds went to benefit Special Olympics.

Men:

19 and under – Seth Moline, 19:01.

20-49 – Ryun Hess, 18:02.

50 and over – Mark Gobel, 22:43.

Women:

19 and under -- Asha Ghassemlouei, 21:50.

20-49 -- Jenna St. Fleur, 20:41.

50 and over –  Mary McGrory-Usset 23:55.
