St. Thomas Crushes Green Wave, Reaching State Championship

St. Thomas will be looking for its third consecutive state title today at noon in its game against Hermantown.

The St. Thomas Cadets destroyed the East Grand Forks Green Wave Friday afternoon 11-0 in the state tournament semifinals Friday afternoon at the Xcel Energy Center.  They'll play for their third consecutive state title against Hermantown today at noon.

The game was close for the first period, with St Thomas leading 2 -0 on goals by Dan McManus and Tom Novak.  However, 32 seconds into the second period, Matt Perry scored the first of six second period Cadet goals and St Thomas dominated play from here on out.  Wyatt Schmidt scored 4 goals, and Matt Perrry, Dan McManus and Gunnar Regan scored 2 apiece for the Cadets.  St Thomas played its usual smothering defense, allowing just 14 shots on goal.  The Cadets did not allow a goal in the Section playoffs, and have shut out their first two opponents in the State Tournament.
