St. Thomas Academy Seeks to Climb Back on Top of Football Standings

After a defeat in the State 5A semifinals last year to upstart Owatonna, the Cadets are hoping to make it to that final game in November in 2013.

For some squads, just getting to the Metrodome for a weekend in November can be seen as a season of success. Braving the regular season and making it through the Section Playoffs as a champion means you're a team in the final four of your class, after all.
But for those that know and cheer for St. Thomas Academy football, the 2012 season's end at the hands of an upstart team from Owatonna spelled one thing - bitter disappointment.
There were, of course, successful moments. The Cadets rolled through rivals from nearby St. Paul, and of course picked up a memorable win over Hill-Murray on the Pioneers' home field.
This year, the next step looks like it could be in sight. St. Thomas returns a pair of senior quarterbacks to help lead the offense, with upper class depth at all skill positions as well - wide receiver and running back.
Coach Dave Ziebarth's team is a perennial favorite in Section 5-5A, and should march to the dome again this season.
This time, Cadet fans hope, for one more game.
