Cadets Hockey Repeats Class A State Title Win

St. Thomas Academy downed Hermantown 5-1 for 2012 Class A state high school hockey title Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center.

In 2011, the St. Thomas Academy hockey team of the Hermantown Hawks in a 5-4 overtime state-championship win.

On Saturday, the Cadets overpowered Hermantown by a more lopsided score—5-1— but with the same result: a Minnesota Class A high school hockey championship.

Alex Johnson scored two goals and Austin Sattler had two assists (Johnson had two of his own) as St. Thomas Academy battered Hawks goalie Matt Mensinger, who had 25 saves. David Zevnik had 20 saves for the Cadets.

The drubbing was the Hawks' first loss—and the only time they've been held to one goal—since the Cadets victory in last year's title game.
