The spring sports season began in earnest last week as teams from Henry Sibley, St. Thomas Academy and Visitation competed in a full schedule of events.

Henry Sibley Baseball: Warriors Open At 2-2

With an even split of its first four games, the Henry Sibley baseball team opens this week with a 2-2 record after wins versus St. Paul Highland Park (8-5) and Simley (10-1) and losses to Mahtomedi (19-7) and Tartan (10-4).

The Warriors travel to Classic Suburban Conference rivals South St. Paul and North St. Paul on Monday and Wednesday, respectively, before hosting St. Thomas Academy on Thursday.

St. Thomas Academy Baseball: Cadets Win Two Of First Three

The STA baseball team won two of its first three games and enter this week with a 2-1 overall record.

After a season-opening 6-5 win at River Falls (Wis.), the Cadets bested Simley by a 14-4 score at home before losing by a 2-1 count to visiting Mahtomedi to even its Classic Suburban record at 1-1.

Individual statistics were not available.

STA hosts Tartan and Hill-Murray on Monday and Wednesday, respectively, before traveling to Henry Sibley on Thursday to close out the week.

Henry Sibley Softball: Warriors Still Seeking First Win

After losing its first three games, the Henry Sibley softball team is still in search of its first win as it enters this week.

The Warriors fell to Classic Suburban foes Hill-Murray and South St. Paul, then lost a non-conference matchup to Totino-Grace in its home opener on April 15.

Rachel Friberg leads Sibley with three hits in her first 11 at-bats with a home run and three runs batted in as teammates Emily Usset and Tessa Larson have two RBI each. Kate McKay and Usset are both hitting .333 with three hits in nine trips to the plate.

This week, the Warriors are scheduled to travel to conference rival Simley on Monday, then host Richfield on Wednesday.

Visitation Softball: Blazers Win One, Lose One In Opening Week

The Visitation softball team earned a split in its first two contests, defeating New Prague, 12-10, at home in the season opener on April 11 before losing 11-1 to visiting St. Paul Johnson on April 13.

Pitcher Sarah Otto struck out 13 batters in the Blazers' win.

Visitation hosts Tri-Metro Conference opponents St. Croix Lutheran and Breck on Monday and Wednesday, respectively, before closing out the week with a Thursday trip to Concordia Academy and a Friday game at Brooklyn Center.

Visitation/SPA Girls Lacrosse: Co-Op Team Splits Opening Pair

After losing its season opener, 17-9, at Minnehaha Academy, the Visitation/St. Paul Academy girls lacrosse team won 10-9 at Breck last week to open the year at 1-1.

Taylor Smith leads the team with seven goals and two assists through the first two games, with Rachel Mussel logging a pair of goals and assists in the same span.

Visitation/St. Paul Academy sandwiches its first home game of the season, on Wednesday versus Prior Lake, with a pair of roadies at Woodbury on Monday and at Rochester Mayo on Thursday.

St. Thomas Lacrosse: Cadets Open Season At 0-2

The STA lacrosse team opened its season with an 0-2 record after back-to-back losses to Classic Suburban rivals Holy Angels and Hill-Murray last week.

The Cadets fell 16-4 at home in the spring opener on April 12, then was defeated 11-4 by visiting Hill-Murray on April 15.

This week, STA hosts Mahtomedi on Tuesday night then head out on the road for the first time with a Wednesday game at Minneapolis before returning home to face Owatonna on Thursday.

Henry Sibley Track and Field: Warriors Boys First, Girls Second In Meets

The Henry Sibley boys track and field team tied for first while the girls took second in their respective Classic Suburban Triangular meets at Richfield on April 12.

The Warriors boys tied the host Spartans with 73 points, while the girls recorded 60 points to take runner-up to Richfield. Individual results were not available.

This week, the Sibley girls are scheduled to compete at the Irish Inviational in Rosemount on Tuesday, with the boys and girls both slated to take part in a meet at Woodbury High School on Thursday.

Visitation Girls Track And Field: Blazers Win Tri-Metro Quadrangular

The Visitation girls track and field team won its Tri-Metro quadrangular meet at St. Croix Lutheran on April 12, recording 93 points to lead the four-team field.

Individual results were not available.

The Blazers are scheduled to compete at Minnehaha Academy on Tuesday afternoon.

St. Thomas Track and Field: Cadets Third In Conference Meet

The STA track and field team placed third in a Classic Suburban Triangular meet on April 12, logging 53 points; host Mahtomedi finished first with 69 points, Tartan was second with 64.

The Cadets are off until the conference relay meet at Richfield High School on April 26.

Henry Sibley Boys Tennis: Warriors Sweep First Two Matches

With a pair of 7-0 wins over Hill-Murray and Tartan, the Henry Sibley boys tennis team began its season in impressive fashion as it prepares for a three-match stretch this week. Individual results were not available.

The Warriors are on the road for its first two matches this week, playing at North St. Paul on Tuesday and at Burnsville on Wednesday, before returning home to take on Simley on Thursday.

St. Thomas Tennis: Cadets Undefeated Through First Two Weeks

The STA boys tennis team has yet to lose a match as the Cadets claimed wins over Apple Valley, Simley, South St. Paul and Bloomington Jefferson since the beginning of April. Individual results were not available.

This week, STA is scheduled to travel to Tartan on Tuesday before hosting Mahtomedi on Thursday.
