Second-Ranked Cadets March Past Hill-Murray

Senior running back Hootie Hubbell rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries to lead second-ranked to a 42-14 win over visiting Hill-Murray Friday in Mendota Heights.

The Cadets dominated the first half and led 21-0 at the break and 35-7.

St. Thomas Academy senior quarterback John Gould completed 7 of 10 passes for 95 yards and scored one touchdown on a 3-yard run and another on a 32-yard pass to senior Teddy Andrews.

Junior running back Nick Waldvogel caught five passes for 81 yards and rushed seven times for 63 yards for the Cadets.

The Cadets never punted and had just one turnover, a fumble which stopped their third drive. STA scored touchdowns on six of eight drives.

St. Thomas Academy improved to 6-0 in the South Suburban Conference and 7-0 on the season.

Hill-Murray dropped to 4-2 in the conference and 5-2 overall.

Defensively, the Cadets were led by senior defensive back Paddy Clancy with five tackles and senior defensive end Nick Elsenpeter with four.

St. Thomas Academy stopped the Pioneers on 9 of 10 third-down attempts and held the visitors to 3-and-out on their first five possessions.

Hill-Murray drove to the St. Thomas Academy 4-yard-line in the waning minutes of the first half but failed to score on four tries inside the 5-yard-line.

St. Thomas Academy wraps up the regular season with a game at Henry Sibley (1-6, 1-6) Wednesday, starting at 7 p.m.
