Mendota Heights Squads Enter Postseason

Visitation's Jackson qualifies for state girls golf tournament.

Several Mendota Heights-area athletic teams either began or continued their postseasons last week with sectional playoff competition. The spring campaigns came to a close for a few local squads while others found themselves positioned to advance.

Visitation Girls Golf: Jackson Qualifies for State

Peggy Jackson's two-day score of 200 at Baker National Golf Course last week in the Section 4A Tournament qualified the student for this year's Class A State Girls Golf Tournament.

Jackson will now compete at state at the Pebble Beach Golf Club in Becker on June 15 and 16.

As a team, Visitation finished third in the sectional with a score of 833.

Visitation Softball: Blazers To Play For Trip To State Tuesday

The Visitation softball team emerged from the one-loss bracket and will play St. Paul Johnson for the Section 4AA championship at 5 p.m. Tuesday evening.

St. Paul Johnson defeated the Blazers, 7-6, in the winner's bracket semifinals last Wednesday to send Visitation to the one-loss bracket of the tournament.

From there, the third-seeded Blazers topped No. 5 seed Minnehaha Academy (5-0) and top-seeded St. Anthony Village (6-4) to set up a rematch with the second-seeded Governors.

Visitation must defeat Johnson twice to earn the section's berth in the Class AA state tournament. 

Girls Lacrosse: Blazers Eliminated By Orioles In Sectional Opener

The Visitation/St. Paul Academy girls lacrosse team was eliminated from the postseason by  host St. Louis Park, 18-11, in the opening round of the Section 5 girls lacrosse tournament last Wednesday, ending the Blazers' season with a 6-8 record.

Henry Sibley Baseball: Warriors Season Ended By Lakeville North

An 11-1 loss to sixth-seeded Lakeville North in the Section 3AAA Baseball Tournament play-in game last Friday eliminated the No. 11 seed Henry Sibley and concluded the Warriors' spring with a 4-17 record. 

Henry Sibley Softball: Warriors Eliminated In Opening Round Of 4AAA Tourmament

The Henry Sibley softball team saw its season come to an end in a 3-1 loss at Classic Suburban Conference rival Mahtomedi on May 23; the Warriors finished with a 5-15 record this spring.

Henry Sibley Boys Golf: Warriors Ninth In Conference Tournament

With a full-squad score of 347, the Henry Sibley boys golf team finished ninth at the Classic Suburban tournament at Keller Golf Course in Maplewood last Wednesday. 

Kellen Overvig and Brad Bohrer led the Warriors with identical scores of 85, with Scott Fudenberg and Tom Carlson carding an 88 and 89, respectively.

St. Thomas Academy Boys Golf: Cadets Fifth In Classic Suburban Tourney

The St. Thomas Academy boys golf team finished fifth in the Classic Suburban tournament last Wednesday with a score of 330.

Joe Dobesh led the Cadets with an 81, with Andrew Commers, Madden Chapman and Joe Hovanec all carding 83's.

St. Thomas Academy Boys Lacrosse: Jaguars End Cadets' Season

A 10-1 loss at seventh-seeded Bloomington Jefferson in the opening round of the Section 5 boys lacrosse playoffs last Wednesday ended the 10th-seeded St. Thomas' season with a 7-7 record.

St. Thomas Academy Boys Tennis: Cadets Fall To Eventual Section Champs

The St. Thomas Academy boys tennis team lost 7-0 in the semifinals on May 23 to eventual Section 3AA champion Eastview.
