Mendota Heights Patch Game of The Week: Blazers Faces Concordia Academy in Volleyball Section Semis

Visitation faces Tri-Metro Conference rival Concordia Academy in the Section 4AA semifinals Tuesday.

ON THE LINE
Concordia Academy, the No. 5 seed takes on top-seed Visitation in the Section 4AA semifinals. Visitation defeated Concordia Academy in the Section 4AA finals last season.

The Blazers, who defeated St. Paul Como Park 3-0 after receiving a first round bye, have had an excellent season. Four of their losses were to 3A South Suburban Conference schools and their other two defeats were to teams ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in Class 2A. They have not lost a Tri-Metro Conference match the last three years, going 35-0 during that stretch. The Blazers finished sixth in last year’s Class AA Tournament.

The winner of this match faces the winner of Minnehaha Academy versus St. Croix Lutheran Thursday at Bloomington Kennedy. The Beacons defeated St. Paul Humboldt 3-0 and St. Paul Central 3-1 to advance to the section semifinals. They have been an up-and-down team this season, with no winning streak more than four games, but conversely no losing streak longer than three matches.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Katie Supplee – Visitation libero
The senior captain, who earned All-Tri-Metro Conference honors the past two years, is described as an outstanding leader. Supplee leads the team in digs.

Rosalie Jensen – Concordia Academy outside hitter
Senior who was an All-Conference honorable mention selection in 2010. Jensen has taken  more of a leadership role this year with the graduation of four senior starters.

BLAZERS WIN IF...
They can continue their strong late season play. The Blazers 13-2 in their last 15 matches with their two losses in the loaded Lakeville North Tournament. 

BEACONS WIN IF...
They can continue to serve well and put pressure on Concordia Academy’s back row.
