Henry Sibley Blanks Simley 7-0 in Boys Tennis

Impressive wins at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles help power undefeated Henry Sibley Warriors to the win.

Big wins at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles led host Henry Sibley to a 7-0 clean sweep over visiting Simley in Classic Suburban Conference boys high school tennis Thursday afternoon.

Matt Schull of the Henry Sibley Warriors won a back-and-forth battle against Jake Short of Simley at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

“Matt Schull missed all of last year,” said Henry Sibley coach Corey Prondzinski. “He was a state doubles finalist as an eighth grader. He’s done a fantastic job considering he hasn’t played for 12 months.”

The Sibley No. 1 doubles team of Sebastian Beermann and Andy Morgan had an impressive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Simley’s team of Tom Wagner and Ryan Haala.

Beermann, who is in his fourth year on the varsity doubles, was a particular handful for the Simley team Wednesday.

“He’s a great senior,” said Prondzinski. “He goes after it.”

Simley came in fresh from a 6-1 win over Bloomington Kennedy Wednesday, but didn’t have the tennis horses Thursday to knock off the undefeated Warriors.

“We haven’t been outside,” noted Prondzinski. “But we pretty much handled the conditions.”

Sibley (3-0) plays at Eagan Monday at 4 p.m.

Simley plays at St. Paul Highland Park Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
