Classic Suburban Conference Votes Dissolve in 2014

Classic Suburban Conference member schools voted to disband the entire conference effective after next school year. St. Thomas Academy could be left out if other schools form new conference.

Earlier this spring, the Classic Suburban Conference attempted to remove St. Thomas Academy, but the organization's bylaws wouldn't permit it. So this week, the member schools voted to disband the entire conference effective after next school year, according to a Pioneer Press article by Tim Leighton.

Richfield is headed to the Metro West Conference and the other schools will likely form a new conference without St. Thomas Academy, according to the article.

Other conference members, their ADs said, contend St. Thomas Academy is a bad fit socially and economically. With seven public schools -- Henry Sibley, Mahtomedi, North St. Paul, Richfield, Simley, South St. Paul and Tartan -- and one co-ed Catholic school in Hill-Murray, the private, all-boys Catholic school in Mendota Heights was deemed incongruous.

It didn't help that the St. Thomas fielded dominant teams in high-profile sports such as football and hockey.
