St. Thomas Academy Wins Big Over St. Cloud Apollo in State High School Hockey Quarterfinal Action

The Mendota Heights-based school won 12-0 Wednesday at the 2013 state boys Class A hockey tournament.

It was an easy, and big, win for St. Thomas Academy during the quarterfinal round of the 2013 Minnesota state boys Class A hockey tournament.

St. Thomas Academy won 12-0 over Saint Cloud Apollo High School Wednesday, March 6. Scoring for St. Thomas Academy, according to the Star Tribune’s Hockey Hub, was: Matt Perry with two, Alex Johnson with two, Austin Sattler, Wyatt Schmidt, Jake Geiser, Alec Broetzman with two, Henry Hart, Matt Perry and Peter Tutto.

The St Thomas Academy Cadets, ranked No. 1 in class A Minnesota high school hockey during the regular season, were among the four teams to advance to the semifinals.

Sixteen players tallied points for the Cadets in a balanced scoring attack which featured good puck movement and foot speed.  Leading all scorers with 4 points apiece were Peter Tufto (1 goal, 3 assists) and Jack Dougherty (4 assists).  David Zevnik and Conor Murphy shared the shutout.  

St Thomas is attempting to win its third consecutive hockey championship, a feat that has not been accomplished since Bloomington Jefferson did it from 1992 through 1994.

The win brings the team to the semifinal game March 8 at the Xcel Energy Center.
