St. Thomas Academy Pool to Reopen Mid-Summer

Repairs to the pool that was closed last summer are underway.

Swimmers at and will be able to return to their home pool this season, after spending last year in .

Repairs are currently underway on the St. Thomas Academy pool, according to Mary Culbertson, director of communications for the school.

The pool remained closed during the winter, after deficiencies were discovered in the steel support beams of three of the walls in the pool building during routine maintenance and renovation last summer.

The east wall of the building, which is the most corroded, is being replaced. The north and south walls are being reinforced.

Culbertson stated that all repairs will be completed by July 15, one month before Visitation School's swim season begins.

There are no immediate plans to build a new pool. Instead, STA is directing its fiscal efforts toward raising funds for the , which will go toward building a new student activities center.

Once the student center is built, the pool will become a higher financial priority.

A committee of board members and parents from St. Thomas Academy and Visitation School are currently assessing the potential size, function, location and cost of a new pool.
