Finalists Chosen for District 197 Superintendent

The school board interviewed six candidates over Friday night and Saturday morning.

Three candidates have been selected as finalists for the position of superintendent in the . 

Dr. Nancy Allen-Mastro, an assistant superintendent in Bloomington Public Schools; Sharon Freeman, an assistant superintendent in Saint Paul Public Schools and Dr. Jon Lamberson, superintendent of Riverside Public Schools in Illinois were selected. Six semifinalists were interviewed Friday evening and Saturday morning. The board deliberated for about an hour before deciding on three final candidates.

"It didn't take that long for us to decide on the three finalists," said board chair Mark Spurr. "I feel very good about the shortlist we have."

Former Superintendent Jay Haugen  last June.  has been leading the administration since he was appointed in August.

“We were very impressed with the strong field of candidates and honored that they were interested in leading to our district,” said Spurr in a statement. “We look forward to learning more about each of the finalists when they return to the district later this month.”

Each finalist will spend a full day in the district March 26, 27 or 28. Each day will be followed by a public availability with that candidate for questions from 5-6 p.m. in Henry Sibley room A-241. Feedback forms will be available. The public meeting will be followed by a second board interview open to the public at 7:15 p.m.

The board is scheduled to select their choice, pending contract negotiations, after the last interview. The deliberations are also open to the public.
