Multi-Hazard Emergency Planning for Schools

The Minnesota School Safety Center is offering a free two-day FEMA class entitled "Multi-Hazard Emergency Planning for Schools" (G362) as part of its regional training program.

Attendees will gain the knowledge, skills and tools necessary to assist them in developing (and revising) all-hazards emergency plans for schools. The course focuses on many elements of an emergency plan including:

• Use of the Incident Command System for school emergencies

• Identifying planning team members

• Developing district and building level school response teams

• Conducting safe school self-assessments

• Training school staff and testing procedures

• Incorporating threat assessment into the emergency plan

• Planning in partnership with community emergency responders

We encourage multi-disciplinary teams of school staff and community emergency responders to attend together. School safety planners, student support staff, district and school administrators, school resource officers (SROs), fire, emergency medical, law enforcement, community partners, and other members of a school’s crisis planning team will benefit from this training.
