Henry Sibley student Jake Jaeger wins Region Triple A Award

School District 197 is thrilled to announce that Henry Sibley High School senior Jacob Jaeger has been selected as the 3AA Region’s “Triple A Award” winner for 2014.

The Triple A award for Academics, Arts and Athletics is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). The award goes to high school seniors who have a “B” or better grade point average and who participate in League-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities. Each MSHSL Region selects a male and female winner, who are then finalists for the State Class A and AA awards, which will be announced later in March.

Brian Ihrke, Henry Sibley’s activities director, said Jaeger was the top male candidate from the 14 schools represented in Region 3AA.

“We are very proud of Jake,” Ihrke said. “He's a great role model who deserves to be recognized for his achievements in both academics and activities.”

Jaeger has a 4.0 grade point average and has taken several Advanced Placement courses, including AP Physics. Jaeger cited his work with Physics teacher Peter Bohacek to develop direct measurement videos as a highlight of his academic career.

Throughout high school, Jaeger has played saxophone in the Sibley Band and Jazz Band, and was selected this year to be part of the All-Conference Jazz Band.

Jaeger is a captain of the Sibley Soccer and Hockey teams, and also participates in Baseball and Trap and Skeet. He was named All-Conference for Soccer this past fall and participated twice in the State Tournament for Trap and Skeet.

"I can't imagine a school that has more to offer than Sibley," Jaeger said. "The teachers along with all of the athletic and other extra curricular activities make it a great school for anyone who is interested in participating. Sibley has tremendous school spirit and I am proud to be a part of that."

Jaeger credits his teachers with inspiring him and helping him succeed.

“I have had nothing but fantastic teachers at Sibley,” he said.  “I can think of examples of every teacher impacting me, from Mr. Kluznik constantly driving me to do my best, to Mr. Friberg’s passion developing my interest in Biology, or the innovative teaching strategies of Mr. Bohacek creating my interest in physics.”

Though Jaeger’s plans for after graduation are still being finalized, he knows that in college, he wants to continue his involvement in extra curriculars by joining club or intramural sports and music ensembles.

Jaeger hopes future Sibley students do not hesitate to take advantage of Sibley’s many athletic teams and activities.

“Music and sports have been fun and rewarding,” Jaeger said. “They are a great escape from the rigors of Sibley's challenging academics. I have made lifelong friendships through all of the activities I have been a part of. I highly recommend all students get involved in anything that interests them.”

Before Sibley, Jaeger attended Mendota Elementary and Friendly Hills Middle School in District 197. Jaeger is the son of Nan and Craig Jaeger of Mendota Heights.
