Henry Sibley Fall Sports Wrap-up

Season highlights from Henry Sibley High School's fall athletics:

Cross Country
The Sibley Cross Country team finished the season with a number of outstanding performances. The girls team was lead by captains Sydney Latterell and Annie Fudenberg to a conference championship. All Conference races were turned in by Sydney Latterell, Erin O'Boyle and Anna Restameyer with All Conference Honorable Mention performances coming from Emily Gallagher and Annie Fudenberg. The boys finished a close third in the conference with All Conference performances from Alex Liu and Anthony Dupont and All Conference Honorable Mention races coming from Tim Ekblad and Ricky Peterson. In section results the girls placed seventh and the boys finished in fourth inspired by the efforts of captains Alex Liu, Will Larsen and Abdi Adan. Alex Liu and Anthony Dupont both qualified for the state tournament and ran well in the end of season meet.

Football
The Warrior football team won six of seven games in the second half of the season and reached the state tournament for the first time in 33 years. They went on an incredible three-game run in the playoffs, upsetting Hastings and No. 1 seed St. Paul Central before claiming the section championship with a resounding defeat of St. Thomas Academy on Nov. 1. The Warriors were led by All Conference performers Stas Vandenbosch-Romo, Kenneth Jinkins, Aidan McConnell, Jacob Ihrke and Anders Thomson.

Boys Soccer
The Sibley boys' soccer team finished the season with a record of 5-7-3 and unfortunately lost to Apple Valley in the first round of section playoffs. The team had many players and showed tremendous improvement throughout the season. After the first seven games of the season the team had a 1-5-1 record and then finished the second half with a record of 4-2-2. Victor Corral and Fernando Bazan received All Conference honors and Jake Jaeger, Will Lutz, and Brandon Lemus were selected as All Conference Honorable Mention players.

Girls Soccer
After a lot of hard work the team had a tremendous finish taking second place in conference, with 7-2-1 conference record and season record of 9-4-1. All Conference players were Kallianne Mogler, Riley McConnel, Kelly Partington and Cassidy Genedak. Honorable Mentions went to Cassie Furlong, Ashley Cline and Kate McKay

Girls Swimming and Diving
The Sibley girls swimming and diving team had another outstanding season, finishing with a dual meet record of 5-2 for third place in the Classic Suburban Conference. The team finished 2nd at the Section 4A True Team meet. The Warriors won two events at the Section 4A meet. The 200 yard medley relay team of Maggie Schmidt, Katie Kostohris, Elizabeth Tuley and Emma Verby won first place. Later, Verby won the 50 yard freestyle. Both the relay and Verby qualified for the state meet, in which Verby finished in 16th place overall. All-conference swimmers were Verby, Kostohris, Schmidt and Kateri Schmidt. Honorable mentions went to Lindsey Mortensen, Kirsten Totino, Carly Zimmerman and Tuley.

Girls Tennis
The girls' tennis team finished the year 9-11 overall, but finished fourth in the Classic Suburban Conference with a 4-3 record. The girls were led by captains Ellie Menssen, Lauren Black and Emily Durenberger. Allie Prokosch and Greta Prokosch earned All Conference honors and the team earned the State Academic Silver Award. The JV team had their best season ever with a second place conference finish and a second place finish at the conference tournament. The highlight of the Varsity season was a section win at Jefferson, avenging a loss from earlier in the season.

Volleyball
The volleyball team had an oustanding season this year.  The team finished third in the conference and won the first section game against South St. Paul. The overall record was 18-10-1. The girls broke almost every school record, including service aces, serving percentage, kills, assists, blocks, and digs. Brittany Jessen was a four-time All Conference player and MVP. Katelyn McGhan was also an All Conference player. Sara Scheuer, KayAnna Cheney and Isabel Kasner were all selected to be All Conference Honorable Mention. Brittany Jessen ended her career with 1,095 assists and 963 kills.
