Video: Metzen Objects to Jobs Bill

Sen. James Metzen (D-District 39) says giving authority to the executive branch on funding cuts is abdicating responsibility.

Senator James Metzen (D-District 39) says giving authority to the executive branch on funding cuts is abdicating responsibility. He says these decisions need to be made on the Senate floor, not by "bureaucrats... across the street."

Metzen made his comments during the debate of the jobs and economic development finance bill, which funds workforce training and business development initiatives. Metzen is the former chair of that committee. The bill, SF887, passed 36-28 on the Senate floor Monday, March 28 following the debate.

Its House companion took a detour to the Tax Committee for a hearing that is scheduled for noon on Wednesday.
