This Week at City Hall: Garages and a Potential Ice Rink

What's on tap for city government this week?

The Mendota Heights City Council is in for an interesting—but possibly long—meeting on Tuesday.

According to the meeting agenda, the normal council meeting has a smorgasboard of items to consider, from renewing the license of two massage therapy businesses to hearing the Fire Chief's monthly update to beginning to prohibit smoking in tobacco shops and hearing the city's 2012 audit presentation.

Before the 7 p.m. regular meeting, though, the council will have an hour and a half study session discussing an ice rink proposed to be built in cooperation with West St. Paul and a new ordinance slightly liberalizing Mendota Heights' restrictions on garages. No formal proposal has yet been made about the ice rink, which would serve both Mendota Heights and West St. Paul residents and high schoolers, and so far the city is only being asked to participate in a task force studying the idea. The arena would replace the West St. Paul Arena when it eventually closes.
