Report: Mendota Heights Almost a 'Top Job Magnet' in Twin Cities

The U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey says Mendota Heights' 'population' rises by 40.9 percent during the workday.

Next time you experience serious rush-hour traffic in and around Mendota Heights, you've got numbers to explain why.

According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, a new report by the U.S. Census Bureau put Minnetonka as the 10th-biggest "job magnet" in the Twin Cities, with a 41 percent daily net gain in population from commuting. Census Bureau data show that  Mendota Heights' percentage is 40.9 percent. Meanwhile, bedroom communities such as Cottage Grove lose population during the workday.

The data comes from the American Community Survey, which samples 250,000 households every month and uses sophisticated analysis techniques to extrapolate those results into community-wide trends.
