In addition to calming traffic, the investment will allow the city to collect data on traffic counts and speed.

Speeders on Mendota Heights roads could soon receive a visual cue to slow down. The agreed to purchase a "speed trailer" Tuesday night for traffic, safety and data collection uses.

A speed trailer can be positioned on the side of a street to project what speed drivers are going as a traffic-calming measure.

The trailer can perform traffic counts, collect speed data and calculate trends, which means the won’t have to apportion staff time to gathering traffic information, said council member Liz Petschel.
