The golf course is run through an enterprise fund, and operations are expected to be self-sustaining.

The course was purchased after a $2.3 million referendum passed in 2007. Those bond payments are not calculated into the bottom line of the enterprise fund.*

Installation of a new monument sign that had been put on hold is now a go, according to Assistant City Administrator Jake Sedlacek.

A budgeted roof replacement is still being put off for the time-being. "We want to make sure we’ve got the revenues on the books," said Sedlacek to the city council earlier this month.

Clubhouse Manager Tom Perkins said the drop in rounds earlier this year is likely due to the extreme weather conditions, and predictably, the economy. Perkins said rounds bought by senior golfers in particular have declined.

While the cold and rain of May and June discouraged golfers, the heat of July wasn’t any better, said Perkins. “Too hot is even worse than being cold,” he said.

Perkins said all the rain earlier this summer improved the quality of the greens, which he’s received a number of compliments on.

Now that the weather has reached a more even keel, Perkins is feeling optimistic. “I’m looking forward to the fall and next year.”

The Mendota Heights Par 3 is planning a Customer Appreciation Day for Sunday, Sept. 25. Greens fees will be $3 from 8 a.m. to noon.
