Mendota Heights City Council Agenda For Feb. 21

Gaining a permit for minor residential projects could be easier if the council approves one or both of two proposed ordinance changes Tuesday night.

The Mendota Heights City Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Mendota Heights City Hall.

The council is expected to review an ordinance amendment that would allow for administrative approval of some non-controversial wetlands permits. These permits usually take about 45 days under the existing framework, which requires review by both the planning commission and the city council.

Another proposed ordinance change would put in place an expedited permit process for certain non-controversial critical area permits. These cases would be sent directly to the city council for review and approval or denial.

The council is expected to approve a grant agreement with Partners in Preservation, who awarded the city $75,000 through the National Trust for Historical Preservation to bury powerlines that cross Pilot Knob Historic Site.  The work must be complete by June 30, 2013.

The city is expected to act on a petition for a streetlight to be installed on the Furlong Avenue cul-de-sac.

If approved by the council, request-for-proposals will be sent out for design of a more pedestrian-friendly Highway 110 and Dodd Road intersection. The city received a $484,000 grant from the Met Council to make safety upgrades at the crossing. The design costs, estimated to be $60,000-$75,000,will be paid out of the city's Municipal State Aid account.
