FAA to Hold Meeting on Airplane Noise in Mendota Heights

The Federal Aviation Administration will come to Mendota Heights' city council chamber to discuss arrival and departure procedures at the MSP International Airport.

Airplane noise has been a subject of debate as the airport looks to expand, with some Minneapolis homeowners saying it will cause home prices to fall.

The Mendota Heights City Council and Airport Relations Commission will be hosting representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Metropolitan Airports Commission at the October 30th city council meeting for a presentation about the proposed Performance Based Navigation (PBN) and Area Navigation (RNAV) arrival and departure procedures at MSP International Airport.

These proposed changes, while improving efficiencies and reducing fuel consumption by airplanes, could also change the airplane noise contours over communities adjacent to the airport, including Mendota Heights.

The FAA anticipates publishing the new procedures late in the first quarter of 2013, so the MAC will be deciding soon whether or not to support such procedures. As such, the MAC and FAA are holding open houses and visiting neighboring communities to present the plans and to receive public comment.

The presentation on October 30th will be at 7:00 pm in the Mendota Heights City Council chambers. The public is encouraged to attend and ask questions. More information about other open houses and the proposed procedures can be found at www.macnoise.com.
