Design Firm Chosen for Dodd, Hwy 110 Upgrades

Making the intersection safer for walkers and cyclists is the goal of the anticipated 2013 construction project.

Pedestrian safety improvements at Dodd Road and Highway 110 will be designed by SRF Consulting, following approval of their bid Tuesday night by the .

The city completed a feasibility study in 2009 of how to make the intersection more pedestrian-friendly, particularly across Highway 110 separating from the .

The council agreed to pursue at-grade improvements, which could include features such as a center shelter/median and ADA-compliant signals.

The city received a $484,000 Met Council grant to be used for construction in 2013.

SRF’s bid of not-to-exceed $89,546 will be paid for out of the city’s municipal state aid account.

City Engineer John Mazzitello said the city received three bids that fell into a “dead heat” according to scoring criteria, and additional staff and the Minnesota Department of Transportation were consulted to help make the decision.

SRF Consulting is the same company that completed the feasibility study.

Council member Mike Povolny said he has worked with SRF before, and complimented their work.*

Bidding for construction of the completed design isn’t expected until early in 2013, with construction occurring next summer.
