Updated 11/02/11 5:00 p.m.

A suspicious man “acting very hyper and very strange” who said he was looking for his daughter at two Eagan elementary schools led police on a high-speed chase with speeds up to 110MPH on Wednesday.

Jason Marson Michels, 34, of Belgrade, is currently in custody on pending charges related to the chase.

According to a statement by the Eagan Police Department, officers received a report at 12:44 p.m. Wednesday of a suspicious man at School. The man, dressed in a camouflage coat and driving a blue Pontiac Bonneville, told staff there he was looking for his daughter but said he believed he was currently at a school located at Highway 7 and Interstate 35W.

After the staff told the man his daughter did not go to Northview, the man reportedly left and showed up at in Eagan, again inquiring about his daughter.

Employees at Pinewood also contacted police who attempted to stop the suspect vehicle as it was leaving Pinewood.

The man failed to stop and led officers on a high-speed chase north on 35E, then west on I-494 at speeds reaching 110MPH.

Several agencies assisted in the chase.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported earlier that they had apprehended the suspect after one of their officers performed a PIT maneuver at Lyndale Avenue and 90th Street in Bloomington.

Michels had avoided spike strips deployed to stop his vehicle earlier in the chase.

Michels had a cancelled license and active arrest warrants for felony probation violation, gross misdemeanor obstructing a legal process and gross misdemeanor driving under the influence.

Police say Michels was transported to Region’s Hospital for observation after arriving back at the Eagan police department. He is expected to be transported to Dakota County Jail after medical evaluation.

Eagan police declined to comment further on the incident at this time saying the matter was still under investigation. Eagan Patch will have more on this story as further information becomes available.
