The Dakota County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at a home in Empire Township, near Farmington, to find a man claiming "squatter's rights."

The vacant home was for sale, but the man had begun painting and making other changes to the home. He had even gone so far as to put the utilities in his name.

Deputies cited him and trespassed him from the home.

In other news from the county, deputies discovered that a pair of men had sold over 10,000 pounds of metal plates stolen from railroads. They were charged with felony theft.
