A Mendota Heights resident was planning to bomb the Mexican consulate in St. Paul before he was arrested on drug charges last month, according to the Associated Press.
Joseph Benjamin Thomas, age 42, was by the U.S. Attorney’s Office with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, two counts of distribution of 5 or more grams of methamphetamine, and one count of distribution of 50 or more grams of methamphetamine.
An associate, 31-year-old Samuel Johnson of Austin, was indicted on weapons charges.
Both have been under investigation by the FBI since 2010. An FBI afidavit reports that Thomas referred to himself as a "domestic terrorist" rather than an American.
Thomas has been connected to the white supremacist National Socialist Movement and anti-immigration activity, according to a post by Bluestem Prairie.
