Dakota County Drug Task Force Recovers Over 80 Pounds of Marijuana

A Hastings man now faces a felony charge and up to 25 years in prison.

Dakota County Drug Task Force agents found over 80 pounds of marijuana at a residence in southern Dakota County, Sheriff Dave Bellows reported in his newsletter.

Gregory Brian Spakow, 34, of Hastings is charged with a second-degree controlled substance crime (sale), a felony. Spakow faces up to 25 years in prison and a $500,000 fine if convicted.

Agents watched a confidential informant deliver 80 pounds of marijuana to the residence on Jan. 17, according to the complaint. The informant told them two men took the marijuana and placed it in a shed near the residence. Agents then conducted a search of the home.

They found "a small plastic bag containing a green leafy substance, a metal grinder, a gallon size plastic bag containing a green leafy substance, cash, and documents in the name of Spakow," the complaint states.

In another building on the property, agents found "a leafy green substance in a freezer," four duffel bags filled with suspected bags of marijuana, a 20-gauge shotgun and seven cellphones. The bags of suspected marijuana tested positive for the drug and weighed 10.71 kilograms.

The total amount of all marijuana found was 37 kilograms, which is around 81 pounds.

Said Sheriff Bellows in his newsletter, the street value of the drugs delivered to the residence is about $250,000.

The complaint does not include the name of the city in which the marijuana was found.
