Construction Worker Shot in Mendota Heights

A man was treated at Fairview Southdale Hospital after being struck twice by projectiles.

Road construction got a little more dangerous Wednesday morning for a man working in a closed lane of Highway 110 near Lexington Avenue.

The construction worker was struck by two projectiles shortly after 9 a.m. The first shot hit him in his back pocket/wallet. The second embedded itself below the skin on his arm.

At first, officials were not clear if the man had been hit by debris thrown up by a nearby jackhammer.

But staff who treated the man at Fairview Southdale Hospital determined that the projectiles "may in fact be a bullet of some sort," according to Eric Roeske of the State Patrol.

Workers at the construction site were wearing hearing protection, and did not hear any shots fired, according to Roeske. No witnesses have come forward and no suspects have been identified.
