Brief: Emergency Response Drill Planned Tuesday Night by Fort Snelling

Approx. 100 emergency personnel will respond to a staged plane crash into the river near Mendota Heights.

A simulated airplane crash into the Mississippi River by Fort Snelling is scheduled for 5:30-9 p.m. Tuesday evening as part of a multi-jurisdiction first responder incident training drill.

Residents can expect to hear sirens and police-radio activity related to the drill.

The training may not look as interesting as it sounds; a barge will be moved into position to simulate a commercial airplane in the river.

“We haven’t done a real large one with them for a couple of years so it’s kind of due,” said Dreelan.
