$10,000 Reward for Ft. Snelling Grave Vandal Info

More than one suspect may have caused the damage.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is looking for more information from the public about the that occurred recently at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Up to $10,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest or conviction of the vandal or vandals.

“This case involves a man who served his country with honor and who was resting in peace for four decades,” said Sheriff Rich Stanek in the announcement released Tuesday. “Those facts alone should inspire you to pick up the phone and help us get this case solved.”

The grave of World War II veteran  was discovered damaged July 12. A significant amount of soil had been removed.

The sheriff’s office also released photos of a knife left at the scene. The knife has a three-inch blade and a black handle. The name “Wally” is carved into one side of the knife “in a crude manner,” according to the release.
