Where are the 10 Lowest-Taxed Cities in Minnesota?

You don't need to look too far to find state's lowest-taxed cities.

Congratulations to two of the cities I represent in the Minnesota House - Inver Grove Heights and Eagan - on having the lowest taxes in Minnesota for communities with 30,000 residents or more, according to a report released this past week.

Mendota Heights, which I also represent in the Minnesota House, would have made the list as well, but it has a population of less than 30,000.

Below is the list of the 10 cities with the lowest property tax rates in Minnesota:

1. Eagan
2. Mankato
3. Inver Grove Heights
4. Burnsville
5. Lakeville
6. Andover
7. Apple Valley
8. Edina
9. Plymouth
10. Woodbury

The list comes from the League of Minnesota Cities annual property tax report.

For those interested in the top 10 highest-taxed cities in Minnesota, click here.

In compiling the data, the League of Minnesota Cities added up the property taxes for each community's school district, city, county and special taxing districts.  There are 853 cities in Minnesota.

By the way, even the highest-taxed city in Minnesota doesn't come close to having the highest property taxes in the nation.  In New York's Westchester County, the AVERAGE property tax is a whopping $8,406 per year.
